UK horses are often smuggled hundreds or thousands of miles across Europe in inadequate vehicles, in cramped and filthy conditions - leading them to suffer both mentally and physically. Some are given new identities to end their lives in a slaughterhouse abroad, while others are being sold for a purpose they are not fit for.

This rampant practice of smuggling horses highlights that there is systemic abuse of the current laws both in the UK and Europe.

We have to improve our laws to protect more horses from enduring this treatment. The new UK Government must act now to prevent horses from suffering.
