Every year, thousands of horses are subjected to long and gruelling journeys across Europe, forced to experience awful conditions, as they are smuggled towards an unknown fate. We need MEPs to speak up and use their influence to ensure laws are put in place to protect these vulnerable animals from horse smugglers.

The laws that govern welfare during transport for horses are being considered by the European Parliament right now and MEPs can make sure stronger protections are put in place. It is critical that they hear from you now about just how important this regulation is to disrupt horse smuggling.

The horses that have been rescued from this cruel trade have only been discovered because the authorities had concerns about their welfare during transport, yet under the current proposed legislation these vehicles would not be stopped as they weaken what is already in place. Over 80% of horses moved would not be protected, making it far too easy for unscrupulous traders to continue to move under the radar.

All horses, donkeys and mules are vulnerable to this abuse, and we urgently need the European Union to act. Email your MEP today and ask them to take a stand against horse smuggling.
